Public records?

Today someone wrongly informed the police that I was going to commit suicide. Strange yes, and also very very embarassing. Unfortunately w/o warning two police officers came to my house to check everything out. They realized I was fine and then left. I know that every time something like this happens there is a report filed no matter what. Unfortunetly I am very recognizable in my community and I am told this record will become availible to the public for a fee on monday. I am extrememly humilitated to find that someone is planning on purchasing this police report first thing on monday. I am very upset since this incident was all cleared up otherwise. Is there any legal way I can make this information confidential to protect my reputation? I am sick to think someone would do this to me in the first place, and knowing people can purchase this, even for there own viewing is really troubling me. Please help if you have an answer. I live in WI if this helps with any law info. ThanksPublic records?
Unless you know that this person is going to pick up this record to "harm you in anyway (usually physically)", in most cases there is nothing you can do about it. Yes, Police records are available to the public under the Freedom of Information Act and/or the Access to Public Records Act of 1979. Once a case is closed, it can be requested by anyone.

BUT.... you can go to the police department and talk to the chief of police or head of the records department and tell them you do not want it to be released and see what they say.

I have put a link to the Wisconsin Access to Public Records Law so you can read it and determine if you can find any reason for them not to release it. You might be able to request that it not be released because they were called for a "medical" reason and that is private. (Grasping at straws here) Also, there is an exception for Privacy and Reputation (page 24).

Hope you find something to help you.Public records?
Unfortunately, public records are just that.

My immediate thought is that since you're a recognized person in your community, you could write a letter to the city newspaper explaining the situation, or even have it as a story.
