Where can I look at public records without paying a website money for access?

If public records are free to the public, how come everywhere I go on the internet wants money for access?



I want to see who all has gone to jail and stuff like that.....Where can I look at public records without paying a website money for access?
Are you serious?



A company invests its own money in a risky marketplace to gather and market and present information and you think they don't deserve to be paid for it?



Then go invest your money in getting the information you want, the same way they did. Sounds like you only need a small subset of it, go get to work, it shouldn't be so hard, right? Or is your time worth something and theirs isn't?
wow, barry c. lets just blindly pay for everything without trying to find out if you can get it for nothing... or at least cheaper. because we all know we don't work for the money in our pockets... we get it for free everytime it storms.

I presume records that can be referred to as "PUBLIC records" are PUBLICLY available, not a wild assumption by any means. They are certainly not private. Therefore you should be able to obtain "PUBLIC records" anywhere "PUBLIC records" are held... still with me?GREAT!

So where are "PUBLIC records" maintained? They are maintained where any organization is serving to represent the PUBLIC! Your local Police Department, Court System, Library, Et cetera... GREAT!

You should pay nothing! Not even the fractional cost of paper if printed. Your hard earned tax dollars at work! (Assuming you pay your taxes). In fact, the publicly employed individual maintaining the record owes his/her livelihood to you! They should be eager to help!

Get off your butt and go to the jails, or write them under the FOIA
ask the police department they will help you
