I need to find someone through public records?

I'm looking for my biological father, and I'm trying to find him through public records, criminal records or otherwise. I've looked into online people searches and found them to be suspicious looking, then found out that they're scams. All I want is to find out where he is, and it's proven to be pretty difficult. A reliable source I found a couple years ago in an Internet safety class it whitepages.com just type in anything you know abou him and it comes up!
Have you tried facebook or just searching on his name? Are you sure he is still living? Have you checked the SSDI?
