How can I find past public records for free?

I am trying to find out who lived at a certian house in 1932, but don't know where to start. I need this for my family tree because the obituary of my grandfather did not have his parents names. Any other help would be appreciated..How can I find past public records for free?
I don't know why you would want what you're asking for since there are other ways to go about getting what you say you need.

To answer your specific question, try the library for old city directories. A more common workaround would be to find the household on census. For instance, give me the man's name, birth year and state and I'll show you.



OK I guess you meant May 1878. There are 2 born about then on the 1880 census you can find at familysearch.org and ancestry.com for free. But which one? 1900 census gives birth year and month.

I do not know what city that death address you gave is in. I had not identified the other Mitchell couple dead or alive although I see some possibilities on 1930 by searching by their ages +-2 years



*by having an idea what cities to look in, I used mapquest to find there is a 153 Punta Aly (alley) in Columbus. Had you known that Ira had a twin, Ida?
