How would I go about finding what a person's middle name is through public records?

The professor for my info gathering class gave us a bonus assignment of 5 questions to practice our background checking skills that we have learned. One of the questions is "What does my middle initial stand for?" I cannot seem to find anything that doesn't cost an absurd amount of money that will tell me what it is.
