Is there any way to access public records without paying for the service?

I am doing some geneology on my family and I don't want to pay to join a group. I don't mind the look up.Is there any way to access public records without paying for the service?
assuming that it is actually a "public" record, or online.. people here do courtesy look ups all the time (ie ancestry.com). Living persons records are normally not online or most reputable genealogy sites. It all depends on what you are wanting to find.

Many records simply are not online. Meaning, you can travel there. In some instances, the services are exactly that.. something that in the long run, is far cheaper than the original route.

On the other hand, I've seen people come here and figure that they want their family history.. as long as someone else does ALL the looking for them. That isn't cool.

You need to be careful in terms of knowing that there are lots of "trees" posted online, but they are worthless, in some cases...if the person has never used any original source and doesn't realize that without a valid source, the info can be wrong (and often is). But many sites (free ones) do have original records .. not trees.

The easiest way is to post what exactly you need (include place and time!!).. and someone will try to find it for you, or explain how to go about it.Is there any way to access public records without paying for the service?

How can I found out, though public records, who would have won the auction of my storage unit?

It has been about three years and I am wondering if I can track down any of my old stuff that I lost in a storage unit that was auctioned off. I am wanting to buy my stuff back by possibly finding out what this person had done at the time he or she won the auction. Did they sell on ebay, or keep the stuff, or garage sale, or what... Is there any way I can find out the buyer of that auction?

Thank youHow can I found out, though public records, who would have won the auction of my storage unit?
I can't imagine any way you could find out. Even if the owners of the storage facility had for some reason kept records of who they sold which particular lots to -- and that's not too likely -- it would be a gross violation of their customers' privacy for them to give you the names and addresses of the people they sold things to.

Your things are gone for good.How can I found out, though public records, who would have won the auction of my storage unit?
If it was in a storage unit, the auction was private and there are no public records. If the bidder paid cash, there is even less likelihood that there is a written record of the transaction outside of the sale itself. You also don't have much leverage with the storage company since you forfeited any rights to the property when you got behind on the unit rental.How can I found out, though public records, who would have won the auction of my storage unit?
Its only possible if the place where you kept your stuff actually held the auction and kept records of who bought what. You'll need your receipts to show which lot (unit) was yours, and perhaps the attendant can help you. Three years is a long time to wait to find out this vital information.

  • What are the public records and other sites for VA?

    Hi , What are the websites to look up people who own a house and there records in VA? ? ?? Thank youuuuuu~What are the public records and other sites for VA?
    dunno sorry

    What can be "verified" in a background/public records check?

    Not stated that all the information is accurate, but more what answers can be found?What can be "verified" in a background/public records check?
    Depends on who is doing the background check. If it's someone who is relying on Internet websites like the many "people search" ones that also for a fee provide background checks, criminal checks, etc.. well, I happen to know that many of those sites are not nearly as upddated or as accurate as they claim to be.

    But if it is like the FBI doing it, or NCIC, well, it will be very accurate and verifiable... especially if you are getting one done in order to apply for tempory or permanemt residency in a foreign country... they will demand a full set of fingerprints as well.

    Good to at least have a locality to work with.

    The social security death index covers US deaths from about 1960ish to the present. That is a death record.. it is not a death certificate. Most states restrict death CERTIFICATES to authorized family members, excepting ones that are considered "historical" (usually more than 70 yrs old.. the record, not the person).

    An obituary is also a record. If you wanted someone in the 1800s, the tombstone would be considered a record..since not all places required death certificates.

    Since you did not specify a time frame, it is important for you to understand that "one size answer" does not fit all.Does anyone know where i can look up free public records for the deceased?

  • Are birth records part of the public record?

    I believe my ex-wife had a baby before I met her. She probably would have had it in Missouri in 1975. Is it possible to go back to look in vital statistics (state and county) and get this information? If she indeed had a baby, it would have been put up for adoption.Are birth records part of the public record?
    And why would you care? Is the baby yours? If not, leave it alone. That's her personal business. And yes births are public record but probably because if there was an adoption that might not be public.
    I don't care about her EXCEPT for the fact that she's got a personality disorder and she is still doing things (harassment via lawyer). If I had this info, I could threaten to "tell everyone" and she would leave me along. Public opinion is the only thing that will make her stop.

    Are birth records part of the public record?
    Yes, it "is" a matter of public records...(I checked myself in fact, on a girl I once knew :)...

    You go to your County Courthouse or City Courthouse and look up births..(usually a huge book that has all the births recorded for the City, or surrounding area).

    I wish you well..

    JesseAre birth records part of the public record?
    I believe it depends on the indivual state, but go on the website and check it out. You will probably need specific dates, etc. Just a question though -- why do you care if she is your ex?
    not in my town ( a very small town in Illinois) Everybody knows everybody's business so it doesn't matter.
    I know death records, and the birth records of those who are dead are released to the public...

    I dont know that birth records would be... since you could possibly end up getting access to someones birth certificate, which is part of their identity. Those things are protected.
    Most birth records are part of the public records. But it depends on which states you are in. And if it has to do with adoptions those records are closed.

    I don't know why it would matter if she is your ex wife unless you are trying to dig up dirt on her. And I will tell ya what your wife did thirty one years ago will not hold up water in court and will only make you look like a fool if you want to go back that far to start trouble for some reason.

    If you think she had your child just flat out ask her. but I am willing to bet if after thirty one years if nobody has tried to contact her or she has not tried to contact anyone there is no other child.

    A child knows when they have been adopted even without being told. and they start asking questions very soon.

    How would I find out more about my public records?

    I have two old debts that have been placed in collections from 4 years ago when I suffered unemployment, and these agencies have a bad habit of putting stuff on my cred. report before even contacting me.

    I just read that some people have actually had judgements against them without any notification. I figure something that serious would be made known to the individual, but apparently I am wrong. Is there a place somewhere where I can inquire if there is anyone "looking" for me?

    Seems scary - between fulltime work, fulltime school and a household, seems that it never ends.How would I find out more about my public records?
    You can contact the three big credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, and Transunion) and in most cases get a copy of your record for free. You can read the good and the bad. If there is incorrect information, they are legally obligated to tell you how to request its correction. Almost always you must do it multiple times and in writing. They will "lose" your first letters.

    Be warned that these same credit agencies also will try to sell you services. Generally these are monthly copies of your credit report or services to help you clean up your credit. If your credit truly needs to be cleaned up, there are county agencies that have volunteers to help you.

You can do this by going to www.annualcreditreport.com It is a free service and by law you are entitled to one free report per year. Review your report and if anything doesn't sit well with you file a dispute. The reports will show if there has been any judgments against you also. Good luck to you.

    Are criminal records a manner of public record?

    If a person was arrested for assault and has committed violent felonies and misdemeanors, would this person's information be available to those wishing to press charges or to the general public? I ask this because a certain lawyer is being ridiculously sluggish with obtaining this information. I'm starting to wonder if he's not some sort of fraud.Are criminal records a manner of public record?
    Court proceedings and criminal records not involving juveniles are public record.

    Contrary to what another answered, states do not sell them. They are allowed to charge an administrative fee to cover the cost of researching and copying the files.
    Some state laws, such as Massachusetts, allow "criminal offender record information" only to certified agencies, specific types of "requestors" (e.g., employers, victims, witnesses), and those of the public whose access is found (by a records commission) to be "consistent with the security and privacy of such information." The statute in MA even goes so far as to say, "Except as authorized by this chapter it shall be unlawful to request or require a person to provide a copy of his criminal offender record information.", meaning that you cannot even ASK a person to give you their criminal history unless authorized by law. The public may, however, request major felony conviction (over 5-yr sentence) info, current incarceration location or parole status, any felony in prior 2 years and misdemeanor convictions entered in the prior year.Are criminal records a manner of public record?
    Yep! Totally public. Here is a law article that talks about public criminal records: http://www.dallasexpungementlawyer.com/a鈥?/a> You can go to your local municipal court and look it up. In my state the cities and villages provide that information, but only in larger communities. I have noticed that some medium size towns and villages are beginning to provide the information. I go on the state website, which has a list of cities townships and villages. Then I go to the assessors department in that community.
    You could look for the deed in the county records or the tax record at the county appraisers office. These site should be on line. Look up the record under the neighbors name. It does take a while for the records to get updated after a sale.

    If you are going to base your price on your neighbors sale you are making a big mistake. You should be comparing multiple sales. Try zillow.com to give you some idea of comparable properties in your area.

    I really suggest that you call a Real Estate Agent who will give you pricing for free or pay for an appraisal about $300.

    You can talk to a lawyer about getting your record expunged.

    Certain crimes may not be eligible, you may have to wait a period of time before it can be expunged.

    As for Google, you're out of luck. If google has a cached version of a newspaper article about your arrest it will be available to anyone searching for as long as google keeps cache around.Is there a way to get your arrest off of public records?
    Google yourself and edit what you find there. You cannot prevent an arrest from being public record but anyone interested would have to go to police records to find it.Is there a way to get your arrest off of public records?
    It depends on the crime. Marijuana related misdemeanors/infractions go away but felonies are generally permanent even if you expunge it. Expunged felonies still stay on your record; it does not simply erase them. There are "wobbler" felonies that will allow you to reduce it to a misdemeanor in California. I believe minors also have a chance to erase their felony.

    Arrest records, however, are VERY difficult to erase.

    Did you actually see what crimes they had committed or did it just say "criminal background found" %26amp; then prompt you to be able to view this information for an additional fee? Many of these free sites are just out to make money %26amp; when you do pay for what they call a "criminal background" information, it is merely a moving violation, like a speeding ticket or a traffic ticket. This is considered a "crime" therefore would appear on a "criminal background". I would not share any information until you know for sure what the crime was %26amp; it is relevant to the person you are sharing it with. Good luck.When is it ok to share public records of another person?
    PUBLIC records, by definition, are PUBLIC. They can be shared with anyone at any time.

    That said, what you found is NOT a public record. It is a SALES PITCH that CLAIMS a public record exists. If you pass that on without confirmation, you could risk slander/libel.

    Your brother would actually have to go down to the station to see if he has a warrant. There is no website for that. I believe there is a site called mcso.org there are mug shots there of people in jail. I believe there may be a site for checking up warrants but its really useless i tried using it the other day %26amp; my friend actually did have a warrant %26amp; on the site it didn't show there was a warrant there.

    How can I view public records of arrest?

    My friend was recently arrested for resisting arrest and leading police officers on a high-speed chase. No drugs or alcohol were involved, but there was a passenger. He was being pulled over for speeding but panicked and tried to make a break for it.

    I am wondering two things:

    What is the traditional penalty for this type of crime?

    and

    Since his family will not tell us where he is, how can we find out where he is being held?

    He has not gone to trial yet.How can I view public records of arrest?
    http://www.crimcheck.com offers an extensive and free public records section, but since you have to first search by state and county and you don't have that information, I would to just go ahead and pay for a background check. http://www.easybackgroundchecks is pretty reasonable and easy to use.
    In countries that allow you to see your files kept on public systems such as the UK, you can see your own files but not other peoples unless these people give you written permission.

    What's the difference between public records, publicly available information, and non-public information?

    These terms refer to the source of the information. The following definitions have been agreed upon by various information industry and government groups:

    Public Records are compiled by various public offices and agencies with the intent and for the purpose of being made publicly available. Examples of public records include real estate records, lien filings, business entity filings (such as corporate registrations), lawsuit information and court dockets, court decisions, and birth, marriage, divorce and death records.

    Publicly Available Information generally originates with the individual himself or herself and is provided in the course of routine business transactions, such as ordering telephone service, placing catalog orders, making retail purchases, and joining book clubs. Published telephone numbers, household demographics, street addresses, and church and school alumni directory information all fall within the category of publicly available information. Information contained in newspapers and magazines (such as news reports and birth, death and marriage notices) is also considered to be publicly available.

    Private or Non-Public Information is not generally available from public records or commercial sources. Non-public information includes information that is protected from disclosure by law or by custom, such as medical records, employment records, tax returns, and personal financial records. It's important to note that the status of information depends on the information's source. A certain piece of information may be a matter of public record as well as publicly available and non-public. For example, your home address may be contained in a public record (such as the deed to your property that is on file in your county's real property records office). Your address may be publicly available from your local telephone directory, and your address may be contained in a non-public database, such as a credit bureau database.

    Many people incorrectly believe that some information, such as Social Security numbers or mothers' maiden names, is always non-public. This is not true. For example, while individuals may believe that their mother's maiden name is a "private" fact (and while credit grantors may treat this data as private or secure), birth records are public record in every state. Since birth records typically contain the maiden name of the maternal parent, it's public record. Similarly, Social Security numbers are often included in public records, such as lawsuit filings and bankruptcy records.What's the difference between public records, publicly available information, and non-public information?
    That would probably be defined in the Right to Know Laws of your state.

    In the USA you can find sexual offenders in California on

    http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov/search.asp

    You'd have to Google

  • Is there anywhere on here that you can view public records free?

    when i go to the sites that say it is free to view public records, it always asks for a credit card number. The link will say its free but its not. Is there any where on here that it is actually free to search AND view public records....death, birth, marriage.......any help will be appreciated... thanksIs there anywhere on here that you can view public records free?
    The LDS church does NOT maintain records of living persons.. they have a huge collection of historical records. There are also many different definitions of what a public record might be (marriage? credit? death?). ALL of these things will be independent and located in different places, with different rules of accessibility.

    If you are wanting to research your ancestry.. the best thing to learn is how to be explicit in terms of what it is that you want. A death record for a person who died in 1988 in Michigan can be completely different from a marriage record from the 1870s in Alabama.

    A general rule is that records relating to living persons are going to normally have restrictions. You may find marriage records (current) at the courthouse locally.. a birth record for a baby in the last century (broadly speaking) will only be accessible to the parents or person concerned. The law will be different for various states.. different counties will have varying records posted (free) on a www.usgenweb.com site.

    Almost everything you do in genealogy will involve looking at the INDIVIDUAL person, defining the locality and time frame, then going for the SPECIFIC piece of information that you want.Is there anywhere on here that you can view public records free?
    I don't know about absolutely free, but a personal visit to the Church of Latter Day Saints are very helpful ( look up in the Phone Book ) or go online. A good site is "Find my Past" with a lot of help and some searches costing only pence.

    Rootsweb people are extremely kind and helful. Usually experienced volunteers. Try typing in Rootsweb followed by the county you are interested in and follow the links They will go the extra mile for you Ask for help at your local library..

    Is there anyway to view public records without actually visiting the county in which they are found?

    I live in Kentucky and I was wondering if there was a way to view public records in California, without me having to actually to drive/fly there. By public records I mean, I was trying to find out about my half-brother who lives out there and I dont know much about him. My dad lost almost all contact with him and his mother after they left from here and I was trying to find them.Is there anyway to view public records without actually visiting the county in which they are found?
    It really depends on the State you are trying to get information from and the specific county in that State. Some larger counties have online access to public records. Put in a call to the county you are interested in and see whether they offer any services online. Some offer the ability to access deeds, mortgages and tax records.Is there anyway to view public records without actually visiting the county in which they are found?
    Write and send an authority for a relative or friend in California to verify public records in your behalf.Is there anyway to view public records without actually visiting the county in which they are found?
    Many states, due to their population and the vast amount of time it takes, to accumulate and store this data, acquire the services of private companies to do this ardous task and therefore being a private company, they will charge for access to this information Unfortuantely, among those states, is California, as well as Texas!.

    some information is open to the public. other information is not open, you have to ask for it. you can for example look up information and get it on your own without asking for it. such information is 'open to the public'. other information you are privy to but you have to ask for it.

    call your lender. it is that simple.

    if that is embarrassing, here is something that will please you.

    if you got behind 100 times, and still have the money late,

    Is there any way to block your public records?

    It blows my mind that anyone can just buy your personal information from sites like PeopleFinder.com. And if you call them to have your records removed from their site, it's only removed temporarily, because their system automatically updates the information every 3 months.Is there any way to block your public records?
    No, they are by law public records. Not only can someone buy them from a website, they can walk into the court house and buy the records.Is there any way to block your public records?
    Sorry, but they are called "Public Records" for a reason. It IS scary that people can buy your information, but if someone wanted to find it (and they had half a brain) they could do it one their own with no help from an online service.

    Can you buy a home without your name appearing on public records?

    We're starting to look at houses and hope to move soon. We've had problems with some nutty and incredibly intrusive extended family. We'd like to try to limit our contact info to people we choose to give it to - not anyone who does a search of the county assessor's office. Any ideas? Thanks.Can you buy a home without your name appearing on public records?
    Not in the US. They are public records, although many states require you to search at the county office and identify yourself.
    When you buy a house, you get a deed (after you have paid the price to the sellers). Just put the deed in your pocket and keep it. That is not the normal way to do it. Usually you rush the deed to the County Recorder's Office. Once it is "recorded" it is notice to the world that you are the owner. But there is no law that says you must do this..Can you buy a home without your name appearing on public records?
    take title to the home under a trust set up by your attorney. he can explain it. Some counties allow you to suppress your name for this reason, but you can't really count on it being available long term. this will work for as long as you want.Can you buy a home without your name appearing on public records?

    Is there a way to search public records for the names of past tenants of a rental duplex in LA?

    We are looking for tenants who rented from a nightmare landlord. How do we find a list of tenants who rented at a certain address? Can we contact the utility companies?Is there a way to search public records for the names of past tenants of a rental duplex in LA?
    I used to manage apartments. That information is confidential. Very unlikely you can find that info out. One thing you may try, though, is writing a letter to that person at that address and see if they forward it. If not, it may just come back with an expired forwarding tag, but with the new address and you can directly mail them. good luck!Is there a way to search public records for the names of past tenants of a rental duplex in LA?
    That information is not publicly available. The utility companies may give you information about the costs of the assorted utilities, but they won't give you the names of who was responsible for the bills. Your only source is the landlord who owned the building himself.

    To answer your specific question, try the library for old city directories. A more common workaround would be to find the household on census. For instance, give me the man's name, birth year and state and I'll show you.

    OK I guess you meant May 1878. There are 2 born about then on the 1880 census you can find at familysearch.org and ancestry.com for free. But which one? 1900 census gives birth year and month.

    How can I get a bad debt and public records notice taken off my credit report?

    It is an $862 hospital bill that they tried to collect through the courts. I was unemployed at the time and had an emergency and now I am stuck with it until 2011. I was told that the bad repot would not be deleted even if I paid the bill which is what I preferred to do. I'm not sure why a non-profit hospital would do this anyway.How can I get a bad debt and public records notice taken off my credit report?
    The problem is it is true and factual that you were sued and there is a default judgment on file. Once you pay it the new posting will show the satisfaction date. Just because they are a nonprofit hospital does not say they do not charge for services and you do not get out of paying at all. We all know the red cross is a nonprofit but they charge the patient for every drop of donated blood as wellHow can I get a bad debt and public records notice taken off my credit report?
    Getting Out of Debt

    Some people may feel that advice on debt management is too late for them. 鈥業鈥檓 already under a landslide of bills and commitments. How do I get out?鈥?The fact is that it is never too late to start.

    The first move should be to establish a working relationship with a reputable bank. If you must borrow, this is where you will likely get the best interest rate. If your bank refuses you a loan, it is probably doing you a favor. Remember, it is in the business of lending money and will lend it to you if it seems reasonable.

    Second, you must start paying off the debts in some organized way. On paper, project your anticipated personal cash flow over the next 24 months. Be realistic. Include every bit of income you expect to have. Then list everything that must be paid. Include some allowance for items that you cannot even think of right now. List the debts in order of priority. Then allocate your money on a fair basis so that each debt receives at least some payment. Set a target payoff date for each debt.

    In conjunction with this plan, consider where you might reduce costs. Debt reduction always requires some sacrifice. Can the grocery bill be shaved by bargain shopping? What cheaper substitutions can be used in meal planning? Can vacations be cut? Can your living standard be reduced? Can some luxury items be enjoyed less often? Sometimes we just have to be ruthless with ourselves. Certain expenses can be moved from the "necessities" column to the "luxuries" column.

    Once you have a plan worked out on paper, discuss it with your bank loan officer. He will be impressed when he sees that you mean business. He may be able to show you how to improve the plan. He may even suggest a debt consolidation loan. If so, be sure to consider the interest rate and the length of time over which the consolidated debt is to be repaid. It will usually mean smaller payments over a longer period of time. But do not be tempted to use the debt consolidation to borrow more money.

    Communicate!

    Any debt-reduction program requires communication if it is to be successful. Visit or telephone each person to whom you owe money. If you think it would be helpful, show them your plan. At least talk to them. Remember, they want to know what you are doing. Keep them informed. The one thing no lender can tolerate is silence. Silence is quickly interpreted as indifference or even refusal to pay. Many a creditor has started a lawsuit to recover money simply because no one bothered to explain what was happening.

    Should you consider bankruptcy? In some lands, all people are entitled to the benefit of such provisions of the law, but it is not to be taken lightly. Debt is a commitment. Moral obligation is involved. Bankruptcy has a ripple effect that creates problems for others. It will remain a blot on your record.

    There is nothing wrong with the old-fashioned concept of "pay as you go." Indeed, if at all possible, the wisest course is not to get into debt in the first place. Debt can be a deadly quicksand that consumes you. Some people allow themselves to be swallowed up. They have changes to make, but step-by-step they can climb out of their debts.

    If you were buried under a literal landslide, you would use whatever mobility you had to start digging yourself out. It may be slow, but it works! Remember, no matter how long it may take or how difficult it may be to do it, getting out of debt is well worth it.

    Where can you access public records for homes going up for foreclosure auction in California?

    I am looking for a website or directory that holds all of the homes coming up for auction sale that are under default of loan/foreclosure. One of my properties recently fell through getting a short-term loan mod, so I was hit with a local realtor letter. In the letter, he specified that my loan has a Notice of Default posted, with an auction date a few months from now. Where did he get this information?Where can you access public records for homes going up for foreclosure auction in California?
    The county tax records, you can actually sort them by foreclosure activity, including the default.

    It is also public record at the court house, but a realtor likely got the information from the tax records.
    public access only means you are guaranteed access to the information if you make the trip down to the court house and review the posted foreclosure list. Most state statutes require a listing of the foreclosure sale date and property information to be posted at the county courthouse and/or office of the clerk as well in a local publication (newspaper).

    If you are looking for internet access to the foreclosure list a few states have the information available online but others require a payment. You should have also received a copy of the notice of default and therefore should not be surprised anyone else accessed the information. You do not need to join a site to access your own information because this information should have been sent to your attention.

    if you are not receiving the information then there is a possibility the lender is in violation of state statutes and you may be able to have the foreclosure action dismissed and/or the sale rescheduled. If you need any additional information I can be contacted directly through Yahoo.Where can you access public records for homes going up for foreclosure auction in California?
    County recorder, sheriff's office and the auction must be posted in the local newspaper.

    There isn't necessarily a website for "all the homes", but if you are looking at a specific area, work with a Realtor who specializes in foreclosures. He or she should be able to share this information with you, perhaps for a small fee.

    Or the most obvious; just call this Realtor and ask him. Most probably he is a specialist in this area.Where can you access public records for homes going up for foreclosure auction in California?

    They have all the U.S. censuses through 1930. The 1940 and later are not available to the public yet. They also have U.K. censuses through 1901. They have military records,immigration records and indexes to vital records of many U. S. states.

    Just don't take as absolute fact everything you see in family trees on their website or ANY website, free or not free. The info is subscriber submitted (folks like your and me) and mostly not documented or poorly documented. You might see different info on the same people from different subscribers. Then you will see repeatedly the same info from different subscriber on the same people, but that is no guarantee at all it is correct. A lot of people copy without verifying. The information can be useful as CLUES as to where to get the documentation.

    Tough one. If England has anything similar to the USA's Library of Congress that is where I would start. At least, if you email them, they could probably direct you where to look.

    How can I access public records to find if someone has been married or divorced ?

    I am trying to do a search on this and I am always tranferred to websites that ask for your credit card...How can I access public records to find if someone has been married or divorced ?
    Why do you need to know? Does it matter?

    If you really want to know, and don't want to spend any cash then it's simple,

    ASK the person in question whether or not they have been married/divorced. If you love them, and are interested in them, then their history should not matter. Stop being a snoop, and start being honest.
    If u have to go as far as to get your info from public records aint even worth it ,,,,u should be able to get the info u need from the person itself

    ps/with any public look up you have to pay for most of them,,

    HUM...

    As part of the coverup, Internal Affairs refuses to voluntarily release information about grievances, etc., about any cops.

    BUT,

    If you are willing and have the time, you can take it to FOIA (The Freedom of Information Act). Visit their website, where you follow their procedure and may end up in court reviewing the data on grievances that may include your guy.

    They outline an entire procedure including template letters, deadlines to reply, etc. Good luck.Where can I find public records about a police officer from Florida?
    I don't think you are going to have much luck finding that information let alone somebody actually giving it to you. Being a police officer isn't exactly a "loved" profession. If you want to learn more about what he did, go do a ride along with your local police department or the police department he worked for. Go talk to some of his old co-workers, that would probably be the way to go.Where can I find public records about a police officer from Florida?
    Go to the department and ask if you can see his personnel file. They might let you or maybe they won't. It depends on the circumstances.

    What website can i go to find public records on the sale of our mobile home park?

    Our mobile home park was sold and now they are threatening to impound our homes if we do not pay up.or we get immediate evictionsWhat website can i go to find public records on the sale of our mobile home park?
    One suggestion I can give you is for all the tenants to get together and get an attorney as fast as possible. Similar to your case there have been at least two cases here in my state. In at least one of those cases the park has not been sold yet, and the public is suspecting they are being tricked into something, and they are fighting like mad.

    This might not be the case in your situation. Maybe everything has gone "by the book", but remember that attorneys always know the law better than us, and if there has or will be any wrongdoing (even if not intended that way by the new owners), there definetely will be something the lawyers can do to stop it and give you a breather, if nothing else.

    Concerning what you say as "pay up", you do not explain if you are behind in your payments at all. Or if the new owner has raised the rent, etc. Whatever the case it is best you dial up as many attorneys as possible, and simply ask if there's a possibility of any help. If an attorney is out of question because of lack of funds, try and contact a "legal clinic", or whatever they are called in your state.

    Remember these are either totally without charge or have very low cost paying plans...Whatever you do, ask around as much as you can, and you will get some help.

  • Public records - where can I find info about forgotten money that is due to me?

    My Mother received a post card from an accountant who says she specializes in identifying %26amp; recovering nearly forfeited funds. Of course she doesn't know where this money is at but wants to know where she can look to find it. Any ideas?Public records - where can I find info about forgotten money that is due to me?
    This might not be a scam. It could be one of two things:

    First and lilier possibility: your mother may have unclaimed funds in a state where she has lived-- a refund check, or something similar that she has forgotten about. Every state has an office that holds unclaimed funds. There is a website that lists all of the unclaimed funds administrators--the state agencies that hold unclaimed funds around the country.

    http://www.unclaimed.org/

    Your mother should check with the unclaimed funds administrators in states where she has lived, and see if any funds are being held in her name.

    The accountant may have seen your mother's name on one of these sites and tracked her down.

    The other possibility, less likely, is that some long lost relative has left her money, and this accountant has tracked her down. Usually these people are looking for a cut of the money. If you decide to follow up, don't pay anything up front. At most, agree to giver the person a cut.
    BTW, folks, it was not a scam - for those who said it was or could be. But beware of these types that ask for money UP FRONT. Don't trust those types of letters, phone calls or emails. That's just not right!

    Report Abuse

    Public records - where can I find info about forgotten money that is due to me?
    sounds like a scamPublic records - where can I find info about forgotten money that is due to me?
    If you're in Canada, the lost funds are at the Bank of Canada.

    If you're in the US, ask your Congressman or bank where they send the money from closed accounts, then contact them.
    It sounds just like a scam. Really!!!!!!!
    If it is state owed, do a search and see if there is a state sponsored site that allows you to search. I know that Michigan does (just to provide an example).

    How long will chapter 7 stay on public records?

    I filed chapter 7 back in June 1996, just checked my credit reports 2 months ago and is gone. Will Employment background check now shows my past bankruptcy at all.How long will chapter 7 stay on public records?
    OK, time to correct the bad answers again.

    Bankruptcies are reported on your credit report for 10 years. After that they are deleted.

    Bankruptcies are PUBLIC records available for everyone to see if they simply go to the court and request it. They are NOT deleted. But since the person searching the info has to pay a fee to get them, they may not want to bother. In your case, if your employer wants to check you out that carefully, they will find your BK records.

    Personally, I would not want to work for someone who thinks a 10-year-old bankruptcy is a deal breaker.
    There are public record databases that report BK filings, so they can might be able to find it there.....Also, in a background check, they have to the right to ask you if you've ever filed for BK. It's better to be up front about filing as they might found out anyway.....How long will chapter 7 stay on public records?
    Bankruptcy stays on your report for 10 years, not 7. Either way, there should be no record of it on your background check.How long will chapter 7 stay on public records?

    What website really has free information on public records?

    if you'd list where you want to research it would be MUCH easier - certain states offer free records, but I won't list them, unless I get a location, because this answer would be stupid long.

    i will list a couple of sites that are completely free %26amp; nationwide.

    1. http://search.labs.familysearch.org/reco鈥?/a>

    you have to register - give them an email addy %26amp; a password, but that is all. they have the 1880 %26amp; 1900 US census records, Ellis Island records (which you can also find at ellisisland.org. you can view %26amp; save if you register, also for free but you can't download them), WW2 draft registrations, %26amp; other assorted records, such as death records from a few states, marriage records, probate, etc.

    2. http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/j2ee/serv鈥?/a>

    burial records for US vets buried nationwide before 1997.

    3. http://www.abmc.gov/home.php

    burial records for US vets buried overseas

    4. findagrave.com

    burial records for any %26amp; everyone, sometimes with obits - this is a volunteer site, so you might get lucky or not, depending if anyone has posted the individuals you're looking for, but with 21 million records, the odds are decent.

    5. www.familysearch.org/

    LDS records - again it's luck of the draw.

    6. http://www.jewishgen.org

    these are mostly records from Europe, useful if you're have Jewish ancestry from Europe - must register, email %26amp; password.

    7. http://rootsweb.com/

    will give you access to the social security death records.

    8. for general records on living individual's

    i like http://zabasearch.com/ in conjuction with www.Intelius.com - both want money, but intelius will give you a rough age %26amp; listing of relatives, while zabrasearch will give an address %26amp; phone number, if you're lucky.

    %26amp; that's all i've got for completely free, without a location. if you give a location or are willing to do a bit of work - ie go to the library %26amp; get a thumb drive, you can view ancestry.com for free - they have one of the largest genealogy records of anyone %26amp; you download them on the thumb drive %26amp; you're good to go.

    good luck.

    ~~~ morganniaWhat website really has free information on public records?
    For free, check out http://www.crimcheck.com , they have an extensive free public records section.
    But since you would have to do the research yourself which can lead to missing out on information, I would recomend http://www.easybackgroundchecks.com , they offer statewide background checks for $15. They also offer nationwide background checks for $30
    I too, tried to find public records without having to pay a fee.
    Very frustrating.....
    You might run across the information you are looking for free, but you will waste a lot of precious time searching.
    There is a reason why public records aren't readily available online for free.
    I found a great source to educate myself on finding people by searching public records.
    http://www.findpublicrecordsnow.com/
    Hope it helps!What website really has free information on public records?
    I don't think there are any free to search websites for public records. The only completely free website that I know of is www.familysearch.org its excellent.
    None that we have found out yet.
    Dont know what state you are from, But for wisconsin I always google wisconsin court access. I would think it would be the same for any state.
    Where can i get FREE old Public records for my ancestors?
    I want to find my ancetors records so bad, and every site i go to you have to pay, i want to get free records, does anyone know any free records? Thanks..Where can i get FREE old Public records for my ancestors?
    When people ask about public records, many times they are looking for vital records or birth, death and marriage records, which are not considered public records by all states and counties within those states. Each state has its own rules and regulations, but for privacy reasons, death records are closed to the public for around 50 years, and birth records for 75 to 100 years.
    The LDS/Mormon [FamilySearch.org] site has many free records at: http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Home/Wel鈥?/a> Texas and Ohio death certificates are available on FamilySearch.org on their pilot site at: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsear鈥?/a> Also, a new beta site on FamilySearch.org at: http://fsbeta.familysearch.org/s/collect鈥?/a> additional records were added.
    Also, be sure to check each state that you need information from as many have their own projects, for example, the state of Missouri has a great website that has many free source documents online at http://www.sos.mo.gov/mdh/ , South Carolina has many free wills and other court documents at http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/onlinear鈥?/a> and West Virginia birth, death, and marriage original records can be found at: http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.a鈥?/a>
    Indexes do not contain as much information as actual certificates but they are helpful and their value in research should not be overlooked. The most popular index is the Social Security Index, which can be found at: http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ or http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/search/f鈥?/a>
    There are other Death Indexes that you can search, most notably the California Death Records and Indexes at: http://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/d鈥?/a> , which is the (free version) at Rootsweb.
    A Genealogy Guide for Finding Obituaries, Cemetery Burials and Death Records for the state of California can be found at http://www.deathindexes.com/california/i鈥?/a> ,some free and some fee.
    Also, USGen Web is a free online resources that has records for every state and most counties within those states. http://www.usgenweb.org/ . For example, from the main page you can click on Tennessee, then on a county of your choice鈥 picked Monroe, then click on Monroe Co., Tennessee Marriages 1921-1954 http://www.tngennet.org/monroe/marriages鈥?/a> or Cherokee Co., NC Marriages through 1905 1906-1930 http://www.tngennet.org/monroe/chmarriag鈥?/a> 鈥?Cherokee Co. was once part of Monroe Co.
    If you don鈥檛 find what you need in this manner, you could go to the library and search the newspaper archives for birth, engagement or wedding announcement and obituaries. Or you could post a query on Rootsweb to the surname board you are interested in to see if anyone has the particular record of interest http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/
    Ancestry.Com has more records online than any other website. Many public libraries have a subscription to it you can use for free. Still no way are all records online, not by a long shot. Also you must distinguish between the records they have obtained and put online and their subscriber submitted family trees. Family trees on ANY website, free or fee, must never be viewed as records. They are submitted by folks like you and me, the subscribers. Even when you see the same info repeatedly by many different subscribers on the same people that doesn't mean the info is accurate. Too many people copy without verifying.
    FamilySearch.org has a new pilot program where they are transcribing LDS records and putting them online. In Salt Lake City, the Mormons, have more genealogical records in the world, not just on Mormons. Actually you should check their website, FamilySearch.org, to get the hours for the general public to the nearest Mormon Family History Center. I have never had them to try and convert me nor have I heard of them doing that to anyone else that has used their resources.
    This is a link to their pilot program where they are transcribing records.
    If you are just starting your FH research before you launch into websites and get fed up because you can't find what you are looking for, or more likely don鈥檛 know what to look for, do your groundwork first.......
    Look on this site, it will help you make a start in understanding the principles of researching your family history http://www.familytreefolk.co.uk/page_110鈥?/a> , also www.bbc.co.uk is another good website that will give you all the information to get you started, search for heir hunters or family history.
    Down load family history sheets http://www.mcpl.lib.mo.us/genlh/forms/ %26amp; starting with yourself fill one in. You will find the sheets act as a check list you may also find that you don't have all your own information %26amp; have to go searching in your home and asking your parents/other relations about it, look for any certificates, baptism cards, wedding invitations, newspaper clippings and any other papers which can give you information, we all have these and most are put away and forgotten about.
    Look at your own birth certificate, it gives you lots of information %26amp; don鈥檛 forget to write the registration number from it down on your form, as this tells you that it is primary document information, which is what you need for every piece of information you collect, once you start researching you will notice that many people don鈥檛 have primary information numbers on their research...which shows you it is hearsay, copied from others , from websites and guesswork and there is no place in family history research for guesswork. One wrong name in your tree and it means you are not researching YOUR family and it is so easy to get it wrong without looking at documentation.
    Fill a sheet in for your parents /any living relations you have, go %26amp; talk to them, ask to see any certificates they have, write all the information down they give you, just from a marriage cert you will get both names including the maternal name, where they lived, married the date, their fathers names, occupations %26amp; names of witnesses...also if the bride/ groom could read %26amp; write at that time as if there is an x in the signature box they could鈥檛, which also then helps you later on looking at other records should you find different spelling of their name.....ask if they have any old photographs as this gets people talking and remembering other people in the family they had 鈥榝orgotten鈥?about...write down any 'family stories' you are told, it is all part of your family鈥檚 history and culture....some may be correct, however many are not or have some truth in them and different people in your family will tell you different versions of the same story, you find once you start researching you can sometimes use these stories in your research for clues about where to look at records...........before you go near a website, this information give you a 'feel' for who your family is and makes it s much easier to find ancestors once you do start looking at websites
    By using the family sheets it makes it very easy for other relations to see what you are doing %26amp; to understand the information you are collecting, they are more likely to help %26amp; give you more information....as most at first will say, 鈥淚 don't know or I haven't got any idea about our ancestors". It is also nice to be able to give you relations a copy, as by doing this they will look at the information, talk about it and may remember more information for you or even find some paperwork that has been long forgotten. I very often leave these sheets with family %26amp; tell them to add information if they remember, the more family you ask the better, this information is first hand information, most family historians regret not having asked these questions of older family members once they realise how valuable their knowledge could have been, however many often leave it too late to ask .
    The very best sources of information is in your home memories of your living relations, any documents, certificates and newspaper clippings that many people keep....you will get lots of information, start lots of interest in what you are doing and will get your family involved in helping you get started and are more likely to have correct information
    If you want a computer database a free one is Brothers Keeper http://www.bkwin.net/version6.htm and you can even add photographs, print out family trees, lists or add notes/stories etc
    Once you have done all this you will be more aware of who your family is, you get a 鈥榝eel鈥?for who is family and who is not %26amp; websites are easier to look at then as you can cross reference the information you have...
    Many will tell you www.familysearch.org or the LDS pilot website, it does have some good information, it also has lots of donated, unverified information which is completely wrong from people who have copied other鈥榮 family trees %26amp; sent it in
    Good luck in your researchWhere can i get FREE old Public records for my ancestors?
    Doddridge: 1853 - 1855, 1858 - 1859, 1865 - 1970
    Fayette: 1866 - 1874, 1876 - 1968
    If you aren't in West Virginia, then a state and time range would help. There ARE free records out there for some counties and some years.
    Births 1855 - 1934
    It depends on what state you reside in. Only so many states currently have public records like that online. Visit the sources below and you will find some states that offer public records for free. On the associated content page, the articles for free records are more toward the bottom.     I suspect from your terminology that you are not in the UK. If you are, then this site should tell you (perhaps it may take a while for the price to show, but it will eventually, since the Land Registry data is where it comes from.)
    http://www.nethouseprices.com/
    If you are not in the UK, it may be more difficult. Try Googling for 'property prices' and add your country, state or whatever to filter it.
    This is a matter of public record and would be at your County Hall of Records - but be prepared to wait as it's not available until after recordation and can take months after the sale closes.
    There is a delay, but usually the jurisdiction will list the home assements and sales on their websites.
    Alternatively the real estate agent you use to write a contract should be able to find out what the amount of the winning contract.
    contact the township where the bid was put thru
    look up the purchase on your county website..I don't know how up to date they are but you can get the records there. you can even find out what all you neighbors paid for their houses and the taxes they pay.
    I would say use zillow.com you should be able to get the assesed value, price of comps, information such as sq. ft, taxes, # of beds and bath of the home to name a few. But note that it get updated once the county/city information gets updated. For me, this is a one stop shop!
    The county is the cheapest source for that information, and it may not be completely free. They may charge you some money for a document search. About two weeks or so after the sale, it'll get into the automated systems from which places like title companies and realist get their information. You can ask your agent to look it up then.
    Move on. Even if it sold for less money there's nothing you can do.
    Go to the Court house and look it up yourself. Only way you can get it done for free.
    Since the 4th Amendment has been violated by the Freedom of Information act and other Federal forms of legislation--personal information can be found on background check sites for a fee.
    It is impossibly to completely remove your private information from public records (refer to previous Privacy Act).
    The cops can dig up your financial records now, your temp addresses and any other information associated with your SS#.
    Even unregistered telephone numbers show up on backgroud search sites--buyer beware.
    In that predicament; the safest thing to do is move to another State (consider to contact a shelter immediately). The State line, would ideally make the stalking a federal crime although you and your new friends may still need a protection order.
    Are car accident records public information?
    My spouse separated from me last month and since had a car accident (found out via e-mail). As he has my daughter with him, I am concerned about the details of the accident. Can I access what happened with police records...is it public information?Are car accident records public information?
    In the USA, yes accident reports are public record. All you need do, is go to the police station that wrote the accident report. pay a small fee and get the report.
    In some states. it does appear online. But in some, it doesn't appear.
    I believe, in that case, you could go to your local police station and request an accident information or so.
    Hire a real estate home inspector. He'll tell you all this plus point out items that are due of maintenance or repair. Any local real estate office can refer you to an inspector.     How do they get celebrity public records?
    I was going through the internet, and I found Resee Witherspoon and Britney Spears's marriage certificate, there's also the birth certificate of Suri Cruise and Sean Preston Spears !
    How do people get them?? Isn't against the law to get minors's certificates?
    How do I get them??
    I found Reese's marriage certificate online for free!!! But I can't seem to find my friends's certificates !
    How do I do that?How do they get celebrity public records?
    they can not be real....to obtain these, you must go to the state records....when i wanted a copy of my mother's certificate, i had to tell why i wanted it, how she was connected to me and prove it before they would release a copy to me...
    when u find out , let me know?How do they get celebrity public records?
    You must realize that so much on the net is FAKE.
    You cannot get vital statics records without having a true legal need or you are a party, or it had to be obtained because of a lawsuit.
    If it is real and online, then either the celebrity "leaked" it for attention or someone else did.
    And, although no illegael to get minor's certificates, again, you have to have a legal issue or need.How do they get celebrity public records?
    Bogus information is easy to obtain.... you weren't suspicious as to why you can find celeb info and not non-celeb info?
    Public records and background check websites in Canada.?
    I was looking for a reputable public records and background checking website that functions in Canada? Does anyone know of one? A relatively low cost would be better but i am willing to pay more.Public records and background check websites in Canada.?
    I have spent the last year and a half researching and testing background check services for a consumer review site (http://www.CompleteReviews.net ) and in that time have run tons of background checks using many different companies. The only site/company I have found that performs Canadian checks is http://www.CompleteReviews.net/recommend鈥?/a> Their background checks are all run by licensed Private Investigators. I am not exactly sure of the price but I know it varies depending on exactly what you want them to find out for you. I do know that Canadian background checks are much more difficult to obtain given the strict rules surrounding the access of personal data in Canada.
    I hope this helps! Please email me at admin@completereviews.net if you have any more questions.Public records and background check websites in Canada.?
