Does anyone know of a free public records web site?

I want to do a search on someone from yearssss ago. He has been in and out of prison. And I believe that those are all public records, but I can't find any free websites. They say free, but after entering all his info, it wants me to choose my "subscription" and pay.

Thank you.Does anyone know of a free public records web site?
Public records, public domain, and free public access are different concepts. Public records are any records kept by a government agency that serve a public purpose. Many of these records are protected by privacy laws. They are not always public domain (i.e. you cannot get my birth certificate thank god) or free. The agency that keeps these records usually charge a minimum of a lookup and/or copy fee and will only give out information to those legally qualified to obtain it under privacy law.

There are some background check websites that purchase databases. Because they purchased the information they will not give it out for free; however, some do offer a free trial. This information will also be limited by privacy law.Does anyone know of a free public records web site?
Public Records do not equal Free records, unless you travel to the court house or state/county storage and look them up yourself. For copies you will still be charge a fee, unless you look pictures of pages with your cell phone. If you are finding them on the internet then a company paid someone to go to the same place and scan and then indexed and uploaded to the web. That costs money so they charge money for access.Does anyone know of a free public records web site?
Yes and no.

Yes..criminal records are public. Your confusion comes from the idea that being public, means it must be online. The sites you are finding are service sites...in other words, THEY run a business, which means they pay to put info online, to make it easier to locate.

The govt has no obligation to put all records on the internet. We won't even talk about the manpower, which translates to money/expense.

I just don't know of a site that has what you want, but hope you understand why.
