I'm trying to figure out some family history, but i can't seem to find any sites that don't charge annual or monthly fees. I just want a public record site..any suggestions?Where would i find public records on line without having to reigister for any fees?
Here is one:

There isn't a world-wide free public records site.

Unless you put it in your question, we can't tell what country you are in. It is the most frustrating thing Yahoo does. It doesn't matter if you go into domestic (USA) Yahoo, Yahoo UK, Yahoo Australia, Yahoo India, etc., all of the questions in English go into one big "pot".

If you edit your question to put what shire / state / province you mean, what kind of records and what time frame, someone may be able to help you.

There are 400,000 free sites for genealogy in general, some of them public records, some query boards, some cemetery transcriptions, some compiled family trees. Write if you'd like links.
Depends on where in the world you are. And where your family history has come from.

If you are Australian, the State Libraries and War Memorial (www.awm.gov.au/research/) offer free ways to search your family tree. Also the Registers for Births and Marriages in each state have electronic systems where you may be able to query, or get copies for a cheap price.

The Catholic church in some regions (church by church basis) has online scans of lists of marriages, baptisms and deaths. But these are very hard to use, due to having to read the hand writing, downloading huge documents and needing to know exactly when and where to search for (ie. getting the right book).

Also a lot of News Papers have free archives. And if you can find a good library they will have archives on film to be viewed for free anyway.

Using papers, and with a few stories or names of relatives you may be able to find out from obituaries other relatives (or even articles about their actions).Where would i find public records on line without having to reigister for any fees?
I don't know, but I wish I did. I try to all the time and never get anywhere. All I know is that on TV they seem to be able to do it in seconds, I mean I know this is reality and TV isn't but damn. We should be able to. I don't know how to.Where would i find public records on line without having to reigister for any fees?
Your local public library may have Ancestry and/or Heritage Quest available online. Both of these contain lots o' good info.

If you need help locating your local library, let me know.
